10 to 20 identical-sized records can be stored stacked on top of each other. For this horizontal arrangement, cheap glass works well as a base. The vertical arrangement is more space-efficient. However, individual compartments should not exceed 15-20 cm in width because records can deform when placed at an angle. Only place enough records in a compartment to fill it, without pressing them against each other, ensuring they can be easily removed. In both horizontal and vertical storage, the shape of the record can press into the cover, which is aesthetically unfavorable and can decrease the value of the record.
Records should be protected from heat (sunlight, heating, lamps, heated equipment). The highest allowable ambient temperature is 35°C. Do not place the record player in direct sunlight, as a Bakelite record can become so heated during playback that it warps and distorts. Once a record has warped, it's impossible to straighten it using DIY methods.
Always store the Bakelite records in their original sleeves. Only take them out just before playing and immediately put them back in the cover afterward. Don't forget to use paper or (anti-static) polyethylene inner sleeves. The record should not come into direct contact with a different type of plastic for extended periods, as the slow-evaporating plasticizer can render it unusable. The openings of the inner and outer sleeves should not align to prevent dust from entering. An external plastic cover made of thicker material can be used to protect the cover. Never leave the record without its sleeve, either in the cover or on the turntable for an extended period, as it can quickly accumulate dust and be easily damaged. Clean the turntable's rubber mat before playing. The record should not come into contact with chemicals, liquids, paint, lacquer, adhesives, common household cleaning agents, or sprays except for the cleaning agents listed below. Store old shellac records with care due to the risk of breakage and protect them from all liquids.
